Parts you'll need to have on your bike on the day of the test.

MSVA

Most Motocross and Enduro bikes are exempt from MSVA as they fall within the criteria of bikes intended primarily for off-road racing, but if your seat height is too low then MSVA will be needed to register an off road bike for the first time

We'd recommend that owners of supermoto bikes check their ground clearance, and if it's too low, put your enduro wheels back on if DVLA requests you take the bike in for them to measure

If you do have to go through the MSVA test, then it'll need a few parts fitted.

  • Fuel tank cap protector fitted if the cap is in front of the rider, and not perceptably spherical, and higer than they like.
  • Front fender edging - if the front edge of your front fender is less than 4mm diameter, then you'll need to wrap it in rubber beading.
  • Impact areas - check that all parts of the quad that a passer by could rub against if the quad was parked in a parking bay have a blunted edge - file the moulding flashes off plastic.

MOT Requirements

Any motorcycle used at night needs to have head, tail and brake lights, as well as a white numberplate lamp. Daylight only MOT exempts the owner frommost of these requirements.

Motorcycles fitted with pillion footpegs are required to have indicators and mirrors. If you haven't got the pegs then stick your arm out to indicate and turn your head to see what's behind you.
